Let’s review what we’ve discussed in past PAWS:
God’s light shines when we sing praises wholeheartedly.
God’s light shines when others aren’t even watching. An example of this is when we leave the bathrooms neat and tidy for those who follow us.
God’s light shines when we say kind words such as Thank You. Kind words are like presents that we can give and that present comes wrapped when we deliver it with a smile.
When we do loving things for other people it’s like we’re giving gifts to God. There’s a story in Genesis 4 about two brothers that gave gifts to God. God was happy with one, but not the other. Listen as I read from the Bible (Genesis 4:3b-7).
As a young man Abel had already figured out that he wanted to give his best to God. Why Cain kept the best for himself, I’m not quite sure. He certainly couldn’t fool God, could he? God knew Cain’s heart and He knew why Cain kept the best.
This year we’re learning to give our best. When we let His light shine, that will happen. By striving to be kind and working to fill other people’s buckets, we are giving our best.
The amazing thing, and maybe you have sensed this already, is when we fill other people’s buckets, our own bucket seems to fill up also. It’s a God thing! We need to be like Abel and give our best.
There’s a reason that I wanted to talk about this today. Our friends in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be going back to their rooms and begin a week of taking some test called the IOWAs. Teachers are like detectives, trying to figure out what their students do and do not understand. These tests will simply give them more clues about what students know. So, boys and girls, I need you to do your best! These tests have nothing to do with your report cards; they are simply tools that will tell us your strengths and weaknesses, and help us to teach you even better!

News from Melissa Trafford, Elementary Chapel Coordinator:
This Friday during chapel we learned more about how our response is our responsibility. We looked at Romans 12:17 -“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
I would like to give a special thanks to Forest Bouyer and George Khoury for their help in chapel this week. Next week Mrs. Jackson’s 1st grade class will help assist in chapel.
Chapel Challenge: Discuss with your child the best way to respond when someone does or says something unkind to them. Close in prayer asking God to help each family member respond to things in a way that is glorifying to God.
